Future C U R I O U S FILM LAB
“The Future is determined by those who get involved”.
Interested? 8 places available for young people aged 16 – 24 on the lab to experiment and make 2 films over 5 days
You don't have to be a filmmaker, but do need to have fabulous, bold, creative ideas that can be made into an experimental film.
Future C U R I O U S is powered by mac birmingham with The Rural Media Company and Maverick TV
2 ideas will be developed into short films with full production support from The Rural Media Company and Maverick TV. Films will then be submitted to Channel 4 for potential broadcast on their on-line platform and the Random Acts TV strand.
As part of the lab you’ll get the chance to…
- learn from industry professionals including experimental filmmaker Scott Johnston, and get a great insight into the process of making a film.
- learn practical and technical skills in experimental filmmaking and generate ideas / concepts for a short art film
- learn more about the Future C U R I O U S project Random Acts and hear from involved artists
- Together we’ll make two films, so like with every film we’ll work as a team and everyone will have the chance to put ideas forward and contribute to the productions.
The lab will take place at mac birmingham from Monday 15th – Friday 19th February 2016, 10 – 5pm each day (with some possible evening location shooting depending on the requirements of the selected ideas)
There will be an induction day on Saturday 6th February, 10 – 5pm to prepare for the intensive lab week.
To take part in the lab you must be aged between 16 – 24 and able to commit to all the dates. Food will be provided most days and support with travel expenses will provided upon request.

What is Random Acts?
Random Acts is a short-form daily arts strand on Channel 4, late nights. It launched in 2011 and in its first year showcased 260 specially-commissioned three-minute films chosen for their bold and creative expressions of creativity.
Television as art, rather than about art, Random Acts will enable a diverse supply of both established artists and emerging talent to create their own pieces, unmediated by presenters and unfettered by the conventions of conservative arts television. The short films will disrupt the schedule with content including, but not restricted to, spoken word, dance, animation, video art and music.
The Rural Media Company is the Random Acts Network Centre for the Midlands in partnership with Maverick TV and a host of other arts organisations including mac birmingham.
To give you an idea take a look at the Random Acts website to see of loads examples of previously commissioned films www.randomacts.channel4.com/
